The cooling system in the Apex Sled takes some looking at to understand what is going on. I have color coded the diagram above to help. RED = HOT water leaving the engine. BLUE = COOL water after it has gone through the heat exchanger (radiator). The only unusual part is the Bypass Tee on the cold side of radiator. The Apex uses a Bypass type thermostat housing that has the lower port OPEN when thermostat is closed - BYPASSING. This "bypass" port then CLOSES when the thermostat opens forcing the now hot coolant through the radiator. As they say, "a picture worth a thousand words". Hope these help.

Here is a simplified version of how I installed in my plane. The only thing missing is the “Expansion” tank. It would be located between the Thermostat Housing and the Radiator. BUT note: The Expansion MUST be higher than the Thermostat housing or excessive coolant aeration may occur resulting in elevated coolant temp. Raising the tail to fill the coolant system is recommended. Getting the Expansion tank above the Thermostat maybe difficult in some airframes.
